Iran, Afghanistan, and Pakistan are determined to expand cooperation to resolving regional crises, the ambassador Mashallah Shakeri told the Mehr News Agency.
According to a statement issued at the end of a meeting of the three countries’ foreign ministers is Pakistan in January, the leaders of Iran, Afghanistan, and Pakistan will hold a security meeting in Islamabad, an economic meeting in Kabul, and later a summit of Afghanistan’s neighbors in Tehran.
Shakeri said foreign ministers from the 7 neighboring countries of Afghanistan will attend the Tehran summit.
Iran has said regional solution is a key to the lingering conflict in Afghanistan which has spread into tribal regions in Pakistan.
Iran has said that any solution to the Afghan conflict that does not consider regional realities is doomed to failure.
Since the U.S.-led invasion of Afghanistan in late 2001 the insurgency has increased and opium production has risen from 200 tons per year to 9000 tons, a 45-fold increase
